The eight things that move the number
In roughly the order they matter. If you want a cheaper part, the top three are where to look.

Material
PLA is the floor; carbon-fibre nylon is roughly three and a half times more per gram, and resin sits between them. This is usually the single biggest lever on price.

Weight
What actually gets deposited, which is not the same as the object's solid volume. Infill density and wall count decide it, and both are tuned to how the part is loaded.

Size
Beyond the build envelope a part has to be sectioned, keyed and bonded. That adds design time and finishing work rather than just more material.

Print Time
Machine hours are charged directly. A part that takes 26 hours occupies a printer for more than a day, whatever it weighs.

Layer Height
Halving layer height roughly doubles print time. Going from 0.20 mm to 0.05 mm is a four-fold increase, which is why we only recommend it where it shows.

Complexity
Overhangs need support, support needs removal, and removal leaves surfaces that need work. Geometry that self-supports is materially cheaper to produce.

Finishing
As-printed costs nothing extra. Sanding, priming and a painted finish are hand labour, and a show finish can approach the cost of the print itself.

Quantity
Setup is a fixed cost amortised across the batch, so per-unit price falls sharply with volume. Past roughly five hundred units, moulding usually wins.
